European and overseas qualifications Comparison Tool

Education systems and the training of teachers in the further education sector vary greatly across Europe and other countries. Sufficient clear and detailed information to enable a full mapping process has been difficult to ascertain. This advisory Comparison Tool has been developed to help you to broadly compare key features of training; main accepted teaching qualification and requirements of professional practice in England to that of other European and overseas countries.

It should be noted that comparisons are in relation to the training of teachers and professional practice requirements and not to the full content of the main qualification in England, Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).

The qualifications selected for inclusion are the main awards available in the countries with the greatest number of practitioners registering with the Institute for Learning; the information provided is all that we have been able to ascertain although research is ongoing.  If you have further information about the qualifications currently on the table, other EU and overseas qualifications not included, any comments, ideas, suggestion to make this a useful resource, please use this link to the feedback form.

Use the drop down list in the search box to select the qualification you wish to compare and then click the search button.  Where the information returned is in pink text, this is hyperlinked to more details accessed by clicking on the hyperlinked text in the cell.
